Adding Context to SIEM:  Why a fragmented view of Security hurts you in Virtualized and Cloud environments

Despite our best efforts to protect our systems, we know that something will fail.  A user will be lured by a phishing attack, unleashing a rootkit; the redundant Internet link won’t come-up when your link primary fails; your database server will run out of disk space on a holiday weekend.  How these events impact your organization is dependent upon how fast you can detect them and respond.

In this interactive webinar, you’ll learn from an industry expert how to efficiently manage security, change control, availability and performance incidents including how to:

• Overcome the “fragmented view of risk” that lets intruders and trusted insiders breach security unnoticed – even when defense in-depth is practiced.

• Implement new efficiencies for quickly resolving security and availability incidents and detect new ones as threat conditions change.

• Quickly find the facts you need to resolve critical security issues without leaving your web browser or manually logging into dozens of servers.

  About the Presenter

  Simon Herring

Simon Herring is an information security professional with over 20 years of experience in vulnerability management and security operations.  As an independent consultant at Ubersecure LLC, Simon provides both business and technical level expertise to a variety of clients, including several billion dollar organizations, US state agencies, health care, and manufacturing verticals.

There are many aspects to protecting sensitive information and critical systems, but Simon’s focus is operational visibility and incident response.  Years of successful penetration tests and reactive security projects following a data breach have shown Simon that organizations lack the tools and processes to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to unauthorized access, abuse, or unplanned outages. Under girded by deep technical knowledge and key strategic partnerships, Simon shows his clients how to identify threats that impact revenue and relationships, what to do when they occur, and how to block them in the future, by implementing systems and processes that quickly put reliable information at their fingertips.

Prior to starting Ubersecure in 2010, Simon was the Founder and CTO of a Midwest security services firm which he started in 2001.  He has also worked for IBM Global Services and the US Naval Security Group Activity in Ft. Meade, MD.  With parents that worked for the NSA, DEA, and CIA, you’ll find that operational security is in his blood.  Whether technical or business minded, you’ll also enjoy his common sense approach, industry experience, and sense of humor. Simon is a member of ISSA and Infraguard.  He is a CISSP and CRISC and holds a BS in Business Administration.
