FAQ

Have a question about AccelOps? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for answers.

What is AccelOps?

AccelOps virtualized, cloud generation software monitors the performance, availability and security (SIEM) of IT infrastructure and applications in highly dynamic and scalable data centers. Anchored by patent-pending technology for distributed real-time analytics, AccelOps works across private clouds, public clouds and traditional data center environments, to bring proactive and comprehensive service health visibility.

What is IT service management?

IT Service Management involves assessing and improving IT processes and technologies to meet business objectives. An IT service management solution enables organizations to monitor, achieve and improve IT service reliability often measured against quantifiable requirements or service level agreements (SLAs).

Is AccelOps an appliance or a service?

AccelOps is software delivered as a Virtual Appliance (on premise) or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Virtual Appliance customers procure necessary hardware for centralized operational data collection, processing and storage. SaaS customers download and install the AccelOps on-premise client software (not an agent), which securely sends locally captured operational data to the AccelOps datacenter for processing and storage.

How can I obtain an evaluation version?

Organizations can qualify for a 14-day trial evaluation of our AccelOps data center and cloud service monitoring solution. Prospective customers are invited to request an AccelOps trial. A sales representative will contact you if further trial qualifications are needed.

How is AccelOps licensed?

AccelOps’ data center and cloud service monitoring software is licensed as an annual subscription that includes maintenance and technical support. Customers interested in AccelOps’ Virtual Appliance solution must license the AccelOps Foundation Module (licensed by Node) – then choose the Performance and Availability Management Module (license by Node), the SIEM Module (licensed by EPS), or both as an “all-in-one” solution. AccelOps’ SaaS models have respective performance and capacity which relates to the operational data to be processed and stored at the AccelOps data center.

AccelOps Export Control Classification Number is 5D002. Our Encryption Registration Number is available upon request. Our product can not be exported, distributed, sold or used in: Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Syria and North Korea.

How does AccelOps support VMware and virtualization?

AccelOps, both the SaaS and virtual appliance solution, operates as a guest host (turnkey software appliance) on VMware ESX or ESXi. Our solution automatically discovers, trends and tracks ESX servers, VM relationships and metrics. Operational monitoring includes, but is not limited to: the ESX server version and operating hardware, ESX hypervisor and respective virtual machine status, virtual machine #, name, configuration path, guest OS, virtual machine and host resource utilization, ESX virtual switches and external network interfaces, VM VLAN associations, status and changes, as well as VMware data store utilization metrics.

How does AccelOps map IT services?

AccelOps provides an automated service-mapping feature that facilitates the process of service definition. Users simply define a service and select applications, whereby AccelOps presents the actual supporting infrastructure. All respective monitored functions and policies of each component are inherited by the service along with user-defined service level watermarks. By defining and mapping services, the IT staff and executives gain instant service intelligence presented through a service carousel, drill-through dashboards and a bevy of reports to streamline collaboration trouble-shooting, capacity planning, SLA trending and business impact assessment.

Does AccelOps provide real-time and historic data analysis?

AccelOps does perform real-time and historic data analysis. The solution has built-in and extensible analytics that correlate operational data dynamically and historically leveraging an optimized operational data repository which allows for long-term historic data analysis. AccelOps operational data is always online and available for up to one year without having to restore archives or reprocess raw data – with a license option to satisfy even longer data retention requirements.

Does AccelOps provide log management?

Yes. AccelOps has built-in log management.

Does AccelOps provide network visualization?

Yes. AccelOps has built-in network visualization and provides the most current layer 2 and layer 3 topology maps. Maps are presented with event and service map overlays and support drill-through object details. Displayed maps can be filtered, exported and saved with the ability to adjust views and objects.

Does AccelOps co-exist with my current tools?

AccelOps integrates more than fifteen IT functions and can consolidate conventional IT management tool portfolios. While AccelOps can co-exist with your current tools, AccelOps serves as the primary operational oversight platform and can complete infrastructure monitoring, asset management, incident response, problem analysis, tracking, planning and reporting processes.

Does AccelOps provide End User monitoring / Synthetic Transaction monitoring?

Yes. AccelOps enables users to monitor application availability and response performance through synthetictransaction monitoring (both single and sequence of nested transactions) for probing the response time of applications running on popular protocols such as HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, LDAP, SSH, SMTP, IMAP, POP, FTP/SCP, JDBC, ICMP, generic TCP ports – and any host or host name. Synthetic transaction results are correlated with other existing metrics and discovered data to augment alerting, reporting and service management functionality.

What is the difference between AccelOps Foundation Module and Service Provider Edition?

AccelOps Foundation Module provides the core functionality for discovery, operational data capture and correlation, alerting, dashboards, analytics, search and the optimized data repository. Users purchase the Foundation Model and then add either the Performance and Availability Monitoring Module, the SIEM Module or both for an “all-in-one” data center monitoring solution. Service Providers and large enterprises can optionally license the Foundation SP Module which provides additional functionality with regards to multi-tenancy and multi-site management.

How easy is it to get AccelOps started?

AccelOps solutions are designed for convenient integration into your current infrastructure and an administration wizard helps customers, step-by-step, through implementation to ensure rapid results.

What does AccelOps software require to operate?

The AccelOps solution runs as a guest host on VMware ESX or ESXi and requires hardware to support each respective Model.

What are the system requirements for the AccelOps Trial Version?

The AccelOps Trial Version installs as a software appliance or as a VMware Virtual Appliance.

  • Requirements: Two 64 bit cores, 4GB of memory and 8GB of hard drive space.
  • Capabilities: 30 day free trial license for 100 devices and 1000 Events Per Second (EPS).
What are the terms for the Trial License Agreement?

Please download the AccelOps Online License Agreement PDF file to review the complete agreement.

How does AccelOps obtain operational data… does AccelOps use agents?

AccelOps does not require agents and the solution is not an “inline” product. AccelOps is placed on a network where it can obtain operational data, as well as establish sessions with the infrastructure. AccelOps uses standard secure or vendor-specific protocols such as SNMP, Syslog, network flow, WMI, MS-RPC, JMX, Cisco SDEE, Checkpoint LEA, JDBC, VMware VI-SDK, HTTPS, IMAP, IMAP over SSL, POP3, SSH, and Telnet. AccelOps does support agents such as the Snare family of open source agents from Intersectalliance.com.

Does AccelOps require a database?

AccelOps utilizes both a proprietary data management system and a commercial open source relational database to manage event data and structured information. This results in high-performance event data insertion, quick search and reporting capacity. No database administration or tuning is required.

What will I see after it is deployed?

AccelOps provides Datacenter infrastructure monitoring, operational analytics and IT service management. As the system is exposed to the infrastructure through its auto-discovery feature, built-in analytics populate incidents, event, IT functional domain, device, performance, availability, security and service-level dashboards, alerting and reports. Users get instant visibility into component details such as configurations, topology, location, operational health status, changes, trends, events, problems, threats and violations, as well as service-oriented insight such as service component dependencies, issues, outages and service-level trends. This operational intelligence is continuously monitoring and updated.

How do I know what license to choose and how can I expand capacity?

Beyond evaluating AccelOps to assess capacity requirements, AccelOps provides guidance on Model capacity appropriate for your requirements. At any point in time during the subscription period, users can upgrade capacity. Contact sales for more details.
