Just in time for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game this week, the Cleveland Indians have drafted AccelOps for their winning IT team.
A lot more IT happens at a major league baseball park than you might think. Attendance has boomed, along with the number and type of mobile devices that fans bring to games. IP security surveillance, mobile device access, digital signage, wireless network, ticketing, point of sale – the IT security challenges are huge and growing.
In an effort to gain full visibility into the organization’s network and to reduce the number of security point solutions, the Cleveland Indians have chosen AccelOps, the leading IT operations analytics platform for the modern data center. The Indians needed real-time analytics and alerts to remediate problems instantly, explained Nick Korosi, senior network engineer with the Indians’ IT staff.
“Our security threats are the same that any organization faces,” he said. “A professional sports team is an enterprise organization, just in a more exciting setting.”
A much more exciting setting.
The Indians’ IT staff monitors the datacenter operations for the Indians’ facility at Progressive Field, as well as the team’s training facility in Goodyear, Ariz. IT operations are also adding a presence at the team’s minor league facilities and building an off-site data center for disaster recovery.
After evaluating other solutions, the Indians chose AccelOps’ security, performance and compliance monitoring platform. The team was impressed with the intuitiveness of AccelOps’ solution and its ease of use.
“We chose AccelOps for its all-in-one feature set,” Korosi said. “In the past, we had different systems that monitored different aspects of the network: syslog collection, event correlation, network/server statistics, Netflow, etc. They were completely disjointed, and events from one system could not easily be used to correlate into another system. AccelOps gives us all these features under one umbrella. “Because of AccelOps, I am able to get the entire story that our network has to tell about a user, device, or group of devices. I can correlate server security events with Netflow data, users, application performance, Snort alerts, etc. AccelOps allows me to drill down into the detail of the problem and quickly pinpoint the source.”
The Indians strongly recommend AccelOps. “If you’re looking for a hard-core reporting and alerting tool for your network, AccelOps is a strong choice.”
